2 Week eLearning Plan

Hi Parents,

I had some requests from families looking to modify the daily learning plan to better meet their home-school schedules. I am posting the 2 week plan below for you to use as needed. Please note that our Disney facilities teacher learning plans (music, p.e., library, etc.) are not included in this document. Those activities are being added to the daily lesson plan updates as applicable. Enjoy!

Internet Connectivity for Students

Students who do not have internet connectivity at home may be eligible for the Comcast Internet Essentials Program.

From their website:

As the country deals with the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Comcast is taking immediate steps to help connect more low-income families to the Internet at home. Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, new Internet Essentials customers will receive two free months of Internet service. We are also increasing the speed of the program to 25 Mbps downloads, and 3 Mbps uploads for all new and existing customers.

To be eligible a household must meet at least one of the following criteria:

·         MEDICAID: card or most recent eligibility letter for an adult in your household.

·         Public housing assistance documentation such as your lease, housing assistance payment (HAP) contract, or eligibility documentation from HUD.

·         SNAP: letter indicating you are approved for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

·         TANF: eligibility letter for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

·         SSI: eligibility letter for Supplemental Security Income.

·         NSLP/Head Start: copy of a letter indicating current participation in the National School Lunch Program or Head Start, with your child’s name, the school name, and the address of where you are requesting service.

·         LIHEAP: letter confirming your eligibility for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

·         WIC: eligibility letter for the Women, Infants, and Children program.

·         FEDERAL PELL GRANT: (Colorado and Illinois only) documentation from your community college’s financial aid office.

·         VA PENSION: veterans pension eligibility determination letter from the Veterans Administration.

·         Tribal assistance eligibility letter, including TTANF, FDPIR, etc.

While we do not endorse one internet company over another, we thought that we would share this information with students who may be worried about how they will access online classes from home.

Reading 104 Activities: 

I can describe the overall structure of a story, including describing how the beginning introduces the story and the ending concludes the action.

  • Set timer for 10 minutes. Complete pages from your language arts packet sent home 3/13.
  • Set timer for 20 minutes. Read independently on RAZ-Kids. Check your assignment rocket for book & quiz of the day. Quiz results are sent to the teacher directly by site. If you finish early, you may visit the Reading Room rocket for a book of your choice.
  • Set timer for 20 minutes. Log in to eSpark Reading. Work towards your HIgh 5 goal! Student progress sent directly to teacher from site.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, National Geographic and Disney are protecting animals. Get facts and photos about them, and find out how you can help.

Many of the animals in these galleries are threatened with extinction, and unfortunately, a lot of the threats come from humans. That’s why National Geographic and Disney want to protect critters. 

Which animals did you like best?

What does extinct mean? How is it different from endangered?

Room 104 Speaking & Listening:

I can ask and answer questions with eye contact, a clear speaking voice, and relevant responses.

Ask 3 family members:

What is your favorite time of the day? Why?

Practice listening & responding to people.  For example: I agree with ______ because ____.  Or ask a follow-up question.

EXTRA FUN ROOM 104:

Need to wiggle and move inside your home?  Join your Go Noodle friends to dance, jump, and sing together!

Need to relax? Visit Flow, Maximo, and Empower Tools for calming exercises.

MUSIC FUN FROM Ms. DUNNE

Family InterviewAsk someone you live with what their favorite song was when they were a child/young adult. Listen to it together on Youtube/Spotify/Apple Music. Ask them why they loved/appreciated that song. Draw a picture of their answer. Take a picture of your drawing, and send it to edunne@cps.edu.
